Being A Blogger In Lockdown

Consistency is key...

Hello everyone, how are you diddly doodling today?

As you (hopefully) all know, I have now been a blogger for over two months. Good job me.

It's not all been Fanta Icy Lemon's by the pool, however. Indeed, I am sure something you may have noticed is that not every blog post has been as good as the last. In fact, my consistency is pretty much all over the place. I will even admit that, if it wasn't for my commitment to publishing one post every single Friday, one of my posts may not have even existed. Perhaps the worst thing is that many of you could probably tell which one that was.

Some posts are really long, others are much shorter. Some are funny, some are more serious. I haven't even found a niche for my work yet. That's literally rule one of blogging school. You know when Mike Wazowski got kicked out of Monsters University for not being scary? That's me.

BUT, despite all odds, you suckers (my loyal amigos) keep coming back for more. It's an honour and a privilege.

Why, Why, Why, Delilah?

So this week, nothing at all to do with the fact that I have done nothing but apply for jobs and get rejected, I have given some thought into possible reasons - not excuses, for my consistency woes. (seriously though, if anyone out there can hear me, please hire me).

Really had to draw on all my creative juices for this - see how the thickness of the question mark and all of the shading is inconsistent? That's one hundred percent intentional and matches the topic, I am great at art. (Have I fooled you yet?).

Reason 1:

I haven't exactly been in the game for very long. It's only been two months! Now, Inc might have you believe that you can 'change your life in two months' but, for me, two months is nothing but smoke and spitting into the wind. (Ecclesiastes 2:11 for those in the know)

Yes, I did just quote the Bible in a philosophical prose on blogging.

Anyway, the point is, I still have a lot to learn before I can call myself anything more than an experimental hobbyist.

Reason 2:

This one might just be treason to all my fellow historians out there but I need to get it off my chest. I. Don't. Plan. I've never planned. I like to call it "seeing where the wind takes me." Every week, I get to Friday, aka Blog Post Day, I think of a topic, and then I just start typing.

Of course, sometimes it may have backfired but, at the end of the day, 'even the best laid plans of mice and men oft go awry.' So what's the point huh, John? (John Steinbeck for those of you, wait... actually, how can you not know John Steinbeck? Did you just not go to GCSE English?)

Reason 3:

You guessed it, 2020's most spoken word... and also in the title of this blog post... LOCKDOWN!

This isn't a matter of motivation, believe me, I am the keenest of beans when it comes to delivering top quality content to you guys. But, inspiration on the other hand... Do you know how hard it is to write about events in your life when you don't actually have any events going on in your life? It's a real conundrum.

Pledge:

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good. Now where's that map?

Joking aside, I shall be doing everything in my power to find noteworthy things as soon as it is legal and I have the money with which I can afford to find them. Honestly, living is expensive. I will also be doing a bit of planning, and possibly even writing extra posts when I am 'in the zone', so that I don't get caught short by the time it gets to Friday.

Let's see how it goes.

Stay Safe.
